Sally’s Recycled Snakes

About
Sally worked at Hallmark for 44 years in various creative roles., starting as a hand lettering artist and working up through various positions ending up doing special projects such as the Creative Leadership Symposium. She has thoroughly been enjoying retirement since 2020.
She loves creating things with her hands and is currently loving carving and painting the heads and tails for the Recycled Snakes, creating patterns with the various bottle caps, and then coming up with a name for the critters. Each snake has approximately 350 bottle caps and when you give them a shake, then they become ‘rattle’ snakes!
What inspires you to create?
I have been creating things with my hands for as long as I can remember. I love creative problem solving and figuring out how to create things. Color, flowers, nature in general, and being around other creative people inspires me.
What advice would you give to people looking to express their creativity?
Find something that inspires you and then figure out how to create it! I find assemblage art to be an easy and fun way to create things!
How does your art connect with people?
My bottle cap snakes take on a personality and people really relate to them. They are pretty whimsical so even people who don’t usually like snakes, seem to like these! They have the added bonus of using recycled bottle caps and I think many people who are concerned about our environment appreciate that.
