About

I come from a tradition of creative and culturally diverse people – painters, sculpture, designers, and musicians. All of these experiences have played a part in molding my personal connection with art and design. I consider myself to be a designer, craftsman, and artist. In particular, I find a connection with woodworking and through this media I strive to showcase the beauty of the material.

The quality of wood, unexpected grain patterns, varied colors, and textures, are all sculptural qualities waiting to be revealed. I look for opportunities to transform basic materials into unique objects that elevate the everyday experience.

What inspires you to create?

I genuinely enjoy problem solving and creatively expressing my unique view of common objects. I am inspired by the beauty of refinement – the distillation of simple forms utilizing simple materials. The refinement of these objects involves many hours of careful design consideration, prototyping, rework and careful honing. This process and journey is part of my inspirational connection.

What advice would you give to people looking to express their creativity?

Just start. Start simply, but start. Don’t be overly ambitious. Small successes lead to greater moments. Embrace experimenting and failing. This is where creativity thrives. Enjoy the process and the results will follow.

How does your art connect with people?

I think people connect with my work both visually and tactilely. I strive to create forms and objects that are easily accessible with uncomplicated materials. Much of my work is meant to be held and touched and they are designed with that in mind. Each item has its own “hand feel” which is inviting to the user and hopefully satisfying to hold.
