About
I have been a lifelong learner. I am constantly exploring new materials and techniques for my art. I have been creating sculptures since I was in fifth grade when I first fell in love with sculpting after creating a diorama for science class. I work primarily in epoxy clay, polymer clay, and paper clay. I also paint and do lamp work.
What inspires you to create?
Life… Sometimes it’s a swatch of fabric sometimes it’s a color sometimes it’s just something that someone says.
What advice would you give to people looking to express their creativity?
Find some thing that you like. Some thing that inspires you. Watch videos study other artist learn how they use materials. And then just do it. There is no right or wrong there is only DO.
If you never try, you will never know how wonderful it is to create things with your hands.
Don’t be afraid to fail it’s part of the growth process.
The only failure is never trying.
How does your art connect with people?
Most of my work is comedic. Slightly twisted a little dark it makes people laugh. It makes me laugh. I basically create little characters doing activities or showing emotions that all of us have and all of us do. I spend a lot of time chuckling especially when the little character and creating comes to life and stares back at me from my workspace.
The greatest joy I get is when people engage and see was at the table, the look of determination and curiosity as they approach my art is so fun to watch.
They see it, they look confused, they approach the display, they study, look delighted and then they laugh.
Sometimes they come back several times to look at what they saw the first one or two trips by and they laugh again.
Then they bring their friends . Such an enjoyable process, so much fun to be part of.
They like to ask me where this stuff comes from. I laughingly said I had a tortured childhood.
Not true but we all think of ourselves as tortured when our mom say no, or if there’s some silly thing that we were afraid of like the dentist? Oh wait I am still afraid of the dentist. Ha ha Ha
I channel a lot of that early childhood stuff through my art. I think that’s why people like it, we’ve all been there.
