I am a Master Designer focusing on Licensed product where I get to illustrate and design with the characters we all love like Snoopy, Mickey Mouse, and Winnie the Pooh. I love telling a story with each product I design while capturing the unique personality of the characters.

My wife Jenny was the Lead Silhouette Artist for the Hallmark HMK stores and we partner on each custom silhouette. We both love brining that same focus on craft and personality to the silhouettes we create. Our silhouettes capture each unique detail and are the perfect combination of illustration and design.

What inspires you to create?

I love the art of creating silhouettes because they capture and preserve a memory in one of the most timeless forms of art. The simple beauty of silhouettes makes each detail so important. We carefully capture every unique feature in every silhouette we create.

The combination of illustrating and design plays into each portrait as we design the flow of the hair and the lift of the chin capturing both likeness and personality. Each creation is entirely unique which makes the art of creating silhouettes so fun and the excitement of the recipient so rewarding.

What advice would you give to people looking to express their creativity?

Hallmark provides us with this special opportunity to visit face to face with the community. We often get to meet aspiring artist and see and hear their passion for art and their excitement in seeing the range of beautiful work on display. I encourage them to pursue their passion and to take the time to look at as much artwork as they can in shows, museums, online, or in print. Most of all I suggest that they always have a sketchbook on hand and never stop creating.

How does your art connect with people?

I bring that Hallmark spirit of helping people connect in meaningful ways to the work I create for Hallmarket. The art of creating silhouettes has been popular for over a hundred years. Our silhouettes often start or continue a family tradition of collecting and preserving memories.

My favorite moment is when we deliver the silhouette, and the family recognizes every meticulously rendered detail from the subtle curve of a child’s nose to the floppy ear of a favorite pet. Sharing memories, capturing moments in time, and giving a meaningful and personalized gift is at the center of each custom creation.
