I am a Collage Lettering Artist who loves to bring words to life. I am constantly drawn to hope and positivity — my happy place is when I’m sitting with my scissors and a pile of colorful papers. I love the challenge of creating collage art and then sending it out into the world. I print my collages onto fabric and paper so that you can have positive words close at hand as well.
What inspires you to create?
You can’t just sit and wait for inspiration to hit you — you have to show up at the table and jump in. I constantly try to be curious and observe all the things around me — your own personal life is your best source of ideas. I jot them down on scraps of paper, so that when i finally have a moment of my own, I’ve already got some ideas floating around. I also surround myself with visual inspiration — my own work, things friends have done, all the pieces that remind me what a joy it is to be creative. If I am playing and having fun when I am creating — it will show in my work. 🙂
What advice would you give to people looking to express their creativity?
My advice for anyone who is seeking to express their own creativity is that they have to work hard to find their own voice. If you think it’s easy for anyone that you are admiring — it isn’t. You have to put in the time and practice. Try all different kinds of media, take classes, and pay attention to what gets you really energized. Look to your own life to find inspiration for subject matter. And create all the time — the more you create, the less pressure you put on yourself that it has to be great all of the time.
How does your art connect with people?
I think that people relate to positive words — they shine a light and remind us about all the things that are good. It’s hard to stay grumpy when you are thinking about positive things. And I think that collage often has an energy and imperfection that pulls you in. It isn’t polished and perfect — often times it feels childlike. That can be really charming and I hope that my work reminds people to play and have fun just like I did when I created it
