About

I graduated from Syracuse University with a degree in Illustration/Printmaking. I worked at Hallmark for 47 years before retiring. Throughout my career, I created many characters for use on both Hallmark products and eventually other industries such as the toy industry and newspaper syndicated cartoons.

My last department was Hallmark Keepsakes where I got to combine previous experiences creating Christmas ornaments. My characters will hopefully connect you to my imagination and my heart, where you will find a bit of fun and happiness.

What inspires you to create?

I have always enjoyed creating characters with a story to tell.I feel my job is to tell their story, giving them a reason to look and act the way they do.It combines sculpting,Fashion design, jewelry-making techniques, and a bit of engineering, as well as a vast collection of “junk” and beads collected from everywhere. I have always loved marionettes, as they have the addition of movement to their stories. When I thought of a retirement project that’s what came to my mind.

What advice would you give to people looking to express their creativity?

If you find a creative activity that you like doing…go for it. It will bring you so much happiness. Don’t care what anyone else thinks…You never know where it can lead.

How does your art connect with people?

I hope to create characters that will be pleasing to the eye, as well as your imagination. To make you remember fun and fanciful times. Perhaps to wear or hang on a tree, or bring back a sense of play.
