SunDog Mosaics

About
I have been creating mosaics since 1991, making my first mosaic at Hallmark in the craft studios. Since retirement from Hallmark, I have been making mosaics full time, and traveling around the country teaching mosaic workshops. I love to do mosaic portraiture and mosaic jewelry, and have begun making my own ceramics and pulling my own glass filati threads to use in my work.
What inspires you to create?
I love to experiment with different materials, and to stretch the boundaries of what mosaic can be. I am constantly inspired by fellow mosaic artists around the world, and the stories they tell with this timeless medium.
What advice would you give to people looking to express their creativity?
Don’t be afraid to make mistakes, or to try new things. Growth requires hard work and the courage to fail.
How does your art connect with people?
I think the medium of mosaic resonates with people because it is historical and familiar, but can be used in a more contemporary manner that can be exciting. I like to incorporate the familiar in new and unexpected ways, whether it be through color, materials, or both.
