2009 Product News
- Hallmark gift wrap is available in six distinctive design collections based on consumer needs from traditional to kids' designs to trendy.
- Technology continues to play a role in this year’s line.
- A new Peek-Busters gift trim features motion-activated sensors that use sound to let the recipient know when they've been caught in the act of trying to peek. The tag can be attached to any gift. Peek-Buster gift bags featuring motion-sensing technology are also available.
- Lights and sound create special effects on some gift bags. For example, one bag plays the song “I Hear Some Jingle Bells” while lights on the outside of the bag blink in sync to the music. A reindeer bottle bag features twinkling lights on the reindeer’s antlers.
- New pop-up gift holders fold flat for storage and pop up into the shape of Santa, a snowman or penguin when the Velcro tabs are released.
- fUNZIP™ boxes offer a clever and convenient way to present a gift. The boxes are self-sealing and require no scissors, tape or bows. The recipient pulls a perforated strip to unzip the package. Designs include a reindeer and Santa and sleigh. fUNZIP™ gift card presenters featuring peppermint candies or Santa and reindeer also are available.
- Many products help consumers easily present popular gifts of home-made treats, wine and gift cards, including gift card holder boxes that play a song when opened, fUNZIP gift card boxes, bottle bags and decorated boxes.
- Many roll wraps and gift bags include extra processes such as foil, glitter, and embossing. In addition, many bags have attachments such as ribbons and die-cut paper shapes.
- Hallmark provides a wide selection of elegant and fun accessories for the perfect finishing touch. Selection includes ribbons and bows made of grosgrain, velvet, taffeta, pipe cleaners, jute, yarn and metallic materials, as well as specialty gift trims such as a golden snowflake, pine cones, candy canes, miniature knit mittens, and glittery ornaments. New wine bottle gift trims provide a fun way to dress up a hostess gift.
- Hallmark offers coordinating tissues and a variety of unusual and decorative gift tags and adhesive seals.
Product History
Hallmark is credited with founding the gift wrap industry when, during the Christmas season in 1917, stores ran out of the red, green, white and holly tissue sheets that people used to wrap gifts. Some decorative envelope lining papers from France were brought from Hallmark’s manufacturing plant and put on top of a showcase for 10 cents a sheet. They sold quickly.
The next year, the sheets were offered three for 25 cents, and they again sold out. Soon gift wrap became the first product Hallmark made that was a departure from greeting cards.
