New Earth-Friendly Greeting Card Choices Available in Hallmark Gold Crown® Stores

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (July 14, 2008) — A new line of greeting cards in Hallmark Gold Crown® stores this summer comes in many colors, but above all, they are “green.” These earth-friendly cards provide an innovative example of Hallmark’s use of alternative paper resources.

The 65 card designs are produced on one of three paper stocks: 100 percent recycled paper, 20 percent recycled paper, or sugar cane stock, which contains 50 percent sugar cane pulp (a byproduct of sugar cane harvesting) and 50 percent recycled paper. All of the envelopes are made from 100 percent recycled paper.

“These cards are a great choice for people who want to reflect their concern for the planet at the same time they are sending a message to someone they care about,” said John DeCastro, Hallmark product manager. “They are smaller than an average-sized card, and they have a distinctly different look. The cards are designed to be recyclable as well.”

The types of cards available include birthday, care and concern, thinking of you, congratulations, and thank you.

“Overall, these are just great cards,” says DeCastro. “We want people to feel good about the cards they are sending – whether they’re connecting with someone over a shared passion for the environment or simply choosing a ‘just right’ message to send.”

The backs of these cards carry a new Hallmark “green icon” that signifies Hallmark’s commitment to responsible environmental efforts. The card back also explains what type of paper is used in the specific card.

This line of cards will be available throughout the summer in select Hallmark Gold Crown stores, as well as at other fine retailers nationwide. They are priced from $2.29 to $3.99.

A similar offering of earth-friendly cards on sugar cane paper debuted in April in Wal-Mart stores and is also available throughout the summer.

In addition, other greeting card lines made with recycled paper content can be found in Hallmark Gold Crown stores, including Hallmark Shoebox humor cards and Hallmark (PRODUCT) RED™ cards. Additional options will be available for the Christmas season.
